20.1 MHz

This afternoon Neil Clifford and I set up the 20.1 MHz radio telescope I've built. For its first outing it wasn't a disaster - it worked technically - but observation wise not a great success. We picked up a lot of white noise, some distant voices (ham radio, probably not aliens) and lots of radio teletype (RTTY). Fortunately Neil could identify all these different signals . . . all I knew was that they weren't the Sun or Jupiter. There's a few problems . . . the legs on which the antenna hang broke in half and obviously a slightly more scientific approach to where and when to set it up would be helpful.

Here's a movie with a soundtrack of some of the received transmissions.
